Police Find Hydroponic Marijuana Plant Grown in a Closet in West Jakarta

West Jakarta Police arrested a woman with the initials LA (29) who planted Cannabis or marijuana plants in a hydroponic method and put the plant inside a closet. West Jakarta Police Chief of Narcotics Unit Adj. Sr. Coms. Akmal stated that the plant was grown with the help of a lamp and ultraviolet light as a replacement for the sunray.

“So the equipment is quite simple but it is enough to grow the plants until about one meter,” the police said in a written statement on Friday, August 4.

The perpetrator was arrested at her home at Kedoya Baru Residence in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, yesterday. According to Akmal, the authorities found the closet where the plant was kept on the house’s second floor.

There were three marijuana plants with a height of about one meter inside the closet. Akmal said that LA was a user of marijuana for years and then tried to grow the Cannabis plant herself.

“So it’s like a mini lab (laboratory) where the perpetrator did her experiment; from initially only purchased marijuana for consumption,” Akmal explained.

He also said that LA used various tools in an effort to grow the plant, such as liquid fertilizer. The suspect bought hemp seeds from a friend via social media. Her friend would then send the dried Cannabis leaves and seeds.

LA tried to plant the hemp by herself since March 2023 by looking for information from social media and the internet. “It has been now around four months,” said the police.

According to Akmal, the suspect claimed she planted hydroponic Cannabis to support her job as an SEO submitter for a site. To the police, LA admitted she consumed marijuana for relaxation, not for trade. She is charged with Article 114 paragraph (1), a subsidiary of Article 111 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35/2009 overseeing Narcotics.
