General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri finally appointed Mohammad Mahfud Mahmodin familiarly known as Mahfud MD as vice presidential candidate for presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo.
The decision was announced by Megawati at the PDIP Headquarters, Jakarta on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
“Today, Wednesday (October 18, 2023), I have firmly made a decision in the interests of the people and the nation, sayingBismillah, the vice president chosen by PDIP to accompany Pak Ganjar Pranowo is Prof. Dr. Mahfud MD,” she said.
Some of the reasons that prompted Megawati to make this choice include the fact that Mahfud is a familiar figure to her. Megawati feels that she understands Mahfud’s thinking.
“He is a qualified intellectual figure because his knowledge in the field of law is very full of experience and knowledge. He also has complete experience in the legislative, executive and judicial institutions. He is a legal warrior and defender of the little people,” Megawati said.
Henceforth, PDIP and other political parties supporting Ganjar Pranowo still need to officially register the presidential and vice presidential pair to the General Elections Commission (KPU).
The presidential and vice presidential candidate pair Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD are scheduled to register with the General Elections Commission on Thursday, October 19, 2023, or tomorrow.
The registration of the presidential and vice presidential pairs will be carried out exactly tomorrow at 11:00 West Indonesia Time (WIB).
“We will register the pair of Mr. Ganjar Pranowo and Mr. Mahfud MD to the KPU on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 11:00 WIB. Please be disciplined in time,” said PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyantoin Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
Hasto revealed this after closing the Coordination Meeting of all Political Parties Supporting the Ganjar – Mahfud MD pair which scheduled the announcement of Ganjar Pranowo’s running mate by PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri.
