PSSI Confirms FIFA Matchday of Indonesia vs Argentina, Palestine in June


The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Chairman Erick Thohir officially announced that the Indonesian national team is set to face Argentina in the FIFA Matchday in June 2023.

“I answered the question about [the match with] the Argentina national team after receiving letters from FIFA and AFC that the Argentina team will come here. There used to be people who were pessimistic about PSSI, now we prove it with the FIFA Matchday, the arrival of the world champion Argentina team in Indonesia,” Erick said in a press conference at the West VIP Room, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

“Of course, I also thank my friend from Argentina that the Argentina national team wants to visit Indonesia to help develop Indonesian football. This is part of the friendship between countries and the momentum for Indonesian football to maintain its revival,” said Erick who is also the SOE Minister.X

The friendly match against Argentina will take place on June 19, 2023. Before facing the Tango team, the Merah Putih squad will first face the Palestinian national team on June 14, 2023. Both matches will take place at the GBK Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta.

Representatives from the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) were also present during the press conference. They are Argentine Team Manager Daniel Cabrera and two officials of Oltre Consulting Account, Pablo Sebastian Wergifker and Maria Cristina Russo. They also came to inspect the match venue.

AFA had already announced the friendly match against the Indonesian national team through its official website on Monday, May 22, 2023, as part of the Tango team’s Asian tour. Prior to Indonesia, Lionel Messi and his squad will meet Australia on June 15, 2023, in Beijing, China.
