6 Survive, 1 Missing After Boat Incident in Western Indonesia

A rescue team has found six out of a total of seven people on a boat that went missing in Indonesia’s western coastline on Sunday evening, a local official said on Tuesday.

The boat, which was carrying four Australian tourists and three Indonesian crews, went missing and lost contact on its trip to a resort in the Banyak Islands off Aceh province from the island of Nias in North Sumatra province amid severe weather.

“The six people who have been found are safe,” said Octavianto, chief of the search and rescue agency of Nias.

According to Octavianto, they were found near islands in Aceh and have been evacuated to Pinang island for treatment.

The rescue team was still searching for the missing boat crew, he added.
