Wow! 7.86 Million Indonesian People are Still Unemployed

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced that unemployment in Indonesia was 7.86 million people as of August 2023, down 560 thousand people compared to the same period the previous year.

“The Open Unemployment Rate or TPT in August 2023 will have 7.86 million unemployed people or the equivalent of an open unemployment rate of 5.32%,” said Plt. Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti in a press conference, Monday (6/11/2023).

Amalia explained that the working age population reached 212.59 million people, an increase of 3.17 million people. This number consists of a workforce of 147.71 million people and a non-labor force of 64.88 million people.

The labor force reached 139.85 million people and the rest were unemployed.

“Even though unemployment continues to fall, the number and unemployment rate is relatively higher than before the pandemic or August 2019,” he explained.
