Indonesian Paragliding Team Bags Gold in Bulgaria

The Indonesian paragliding national team won gold at the 12th Federation Aeronatique Internationale (FAI) World Paragliding Accuracy Championship in Bulgaria, from October 20 to 28. The team was welcomed back home on Monday, October 30, 2023.

The paragliding team bagged a gold medal for Team Accuracy, adding to the bronze medal for men’s individual won by Aris Afriansyah.

“We are proud of [the achievements], especially when Indonesia Raya (Indonesia’s national song) plays and the Red-White flag waves at international events relating to sports, including paragliding,” said Agus Priyanto, the Deputy Staff Air Potentials Division of the Indonesian Air Force at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Monday.

Indonesia sent five of its paragliding athletes during this championship. These athletes included Aris Afriansyah, Purnomo Alamsyah, Risky Maulana, Rika Wijayanti, and Silviana Bebby. The athletes compete in three classes, namely Team Accuracy, Men’s Individual, and Women’s Individual.

Indonesia emerged as the winner for Team Accuracy, beating the Czech Republic and South Korea. Meanwhile, Aris Afriansyah managed to win bronze after Yang Chen from China and Linus Schubert from Germany as the winner and first runner-up in Men’s Individual.

Agus hoped that in the future, this sport would be more highly publicized to invite potential athletes from all around Indonesia to play paragliding.
