The air temperature in Surabaya, East Java, reportedly reached 42 degrees Celsius according to the US-based weather forecasting app AccuWeather. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the report was false.

The agency’s forecaster Clara Dea disclosed data on the maximum air temperature measured in several regions of Indonesia in September 2023. “The temperature range is between 35.4 – 38 degrees Celsius during the day, with the highest maximum temperature reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius,” she said in a short message, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

The highest maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Semarang Climatology Station in Central Java on September 25 and 29 and at the Kertajati Meteorological Station in Majalengka, West Java on September 28, 2023.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature measured in Greater Jakarta was in the range of 35 – 37.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of up to 37.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in the South Tangerang area on September 29, 2023.

According to Clara, this hot weather would continue throughout October considering that sunny skies would still dominate during the day. The rainy season was expected to begin in November.

From October to November, several regions were forecasted to enter a transition period from the dry season to the rainy season. There is a likelihood of extreme weather, such as strong winds, especially in the afternoon. Therefore, people are advised to be aware of possible disasters.
