Hamas vs Israel War Flares Up, President Jokowi Asks Foreign Minister to Protect Indonesian Citizens

The Hamas and Israel war entered its fourth day today, Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The escalation of the war continues to increase and casualties continue to fall from both sides.

Regarding the condition of Indonesian citizens (WNI) in PalestinePresident Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and other officials to take quick action to protect those in the conflict area.

“I ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the ranks of related ministries to immediately take quick action to protect Indonesian citizens who are in conflict areas,” Jokowi explained, launching the Presidential Secretariat channel on YouTube, today Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Jokowi emphasized that the settlement of the Palestinian war with Israel must be in accordance with the parameters agreed upon at the United Nations.

“The root of the conflict is the occupation of Palestinian territories by Israel, it must be resolved immediately in accordance with the parameters agreed upon by the United Nations,” the Head of State said.

Jokowi also urged that the war or conflict between Palestine and Israel be stopped immediately to reduce the number of human casualties.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) through its official website conveyed an appeal to Indonesian citizens in the conflict zone.

“Considering the latest security situation and for the safety of Indonesian citizens, the Government of Indonesia urges Indonesian citizens who are in the Palestinian territories and Israel to immediately leave the area and for those who have planned trips to the two regions to cancel their plans until further notice from the government,” wrote the statement as quoted from Kemlu.go.id, Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
