U-17 World Cup: Police Deploy 1,000 Personnel at JIS

Jakarta Metro Police deployed 1,019 personnel to secure the U-17 World Cup matches at Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in North Jakarta on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 11.

The police chief of Operation Bureau Sr. Comsr. Marsudianto explained that the police security was at Zone 3, or outside of the JIS area. “Based on FIFA’s regulations, we secure the Zone 3 area outside of JIS,” he said.

All personnel were prohibited from using guns and performing their work in a humane manner. “We carry out security on an international scale, so please carry out your duties with full responsibility,” he said.

Apart from JIS, the police are focusing on securing the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area during the U-17 World Cup from November 10 to December 2.

“The security is placed at JIS and several locations in GBK as a training venue,” said the Jakarta Police Chief of Public Relations Sr. Comsr. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko when met on Thursday, November 9.

The Jakarta International Stadium or JIS is the headquarters for participants in Group C, namely Brazil, England, Iran, and New Caledonia. Next are the Group E participants, namely Burkina Faso, France, South Korea, and the United States.

For the match schedule at JIS, namely the group stages on 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, and 18 of November 2023. Then the round of 16 on November 22 and then the quarter-finals on November 24.

Trunoyudo appealed to the public to help maintain security and order during the performance so that it could provide pride in the eyes of the international community.
