The Depok City Government (Pemkot) through the Depok City Health Service (Dinkes) issued a circular (SE) regarding awareness of monkeypox (mpox) or monkey pox. This is so that health facilities (faskes) in Depok City can be aware of and anticipate the presence of this disease.
Circular number 443.32/7859-SURVIM was issued on October 25 2023 for health facilities and health professional organizations in Depok City. The SE issued is in connection with the SE Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) number HK.02.02/C/4408/2023 concerning increasing awareness of mpox in Indonesia.
“We conveyed several things to this SE for follow-up by health facilities and health professional organizations as an effort to alert and anticipate cases of monkey pox in Depok City,” said the Head of the Depok City Health Service (Dinkes), Mary Liziawati, in her statement, as seen by detikcom, Friday (3/11/2023).
Mary explained that monkey pox is an emerging zoonosis caused by the monkeypox virus or members of the Orthopoxvirus genus in the Poxiridae family. Transmission to humans occurs through direct contact with infected people or animals or through objects contaminated with the virus.
“This disease can be mild with symptoms lasting around two to weeks. This disease can progress to become serious and even death with a case fatality rate of three to six percent,” he explained.
Mary revealed that the cumulative number of cases from January 1 2022 to September 26 2023 was 90,618 cases with 157 deaths reported from 115 countries. Meanwhile, the cumulative number of cases in Jakarta as of October 25 2023 was 13 people.
