Friends Viewership Soars After Matthew Perry Dies

The United States (US) sitcom series, Friends, recorded a surge in the number of viewers on streaming services after one of the main characters, Matthew Perry, died.

Based on data released by JustWatch, Friends has been the number one series in the US for the past week. This ’90s sitcom was the top-rated TV show among US viewers from October 30 to November 5, 2023.

This sitcom, which was broadcast on the Max streaming service, even succeeded in beating All the Light We Cannot See, directed by Shawn Levy and Gen V, which was broadcast on Prime Video.

According to Variety, in the US, the sitcom Friends aired exclusively on Max (formerly HBO Max). Since Perry was declared dead on Saturday (28/10/2023), Max has shown special tribute credits in each first episode of each season.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, series lovers can watch Friends via Netflix. This comedy sitcom, created by David Crane, Marta Kauffman, Patty Lin, and Jeff Greenstein, has 10 seasons.

Friends is a generation X sitcom from NBC in the 90s that tells the lives of six New York teenagers who live in the same apartment building. In this film, Perry plays Chandler Bing, a statistical analyst who often uses sarcasm and humorous sentences.

Previously, Perry was reported to have died as a result of drowning in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, Saturday (28/10/2023) local time.

Reporting from NBC News, a representative said that Perry died as a result of drowning at his home. Law enforcement sources said a 911 call came in at 4:07 p.m. local time for a water rescue.

The actor, who was born on August 19 1969, was buried privately on Friday (3/11/2023). The funeral was only attended by family, relatives and closest friends, including the five Friends stars.
