Former Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G Plate was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the corruption case for the BTS 4G Kominfo project. The judge said Plate received money worth IDR 15.5 billion related to the BTS project.
“Johnny Gerard plate has received IDR 15.5 billion,” said member judge Sukartono in the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Wednesday (8/11/2023).
Judge Sukartono then said that the Rp. 1.5 billion that Plate received regarding the BTS project was channeled to the diocese. However, the judge did not explain which diocese the money was distributed to.
“From Rp. 10 billion and Rp. 4 billion from Walbelrtus. And Rp. 1.5 billion has been distributed to the diocese and Catholic education,” he said.
The judge also revealed the flow of money from the BTS project to other defendants. He said the defendant, Commissioner of PT Solitech Media Sinergy Irwan Hermawan, received Rp. 243 billion which had been distributed to secure the case.
“Irwan Hermawan received IDR 243 billion which has been distributed to several parties for the purposes of securing the case,” he said.
The following is the flow of BTS project money received by the defendants and the consortium:
- Defendant Johnny G Plate amounting to IDR 15.5 billion
- Former Director of Bakti Kominfo Anang Achmad Latif amounting to IDR 5 billion
- Expert staff at HUDEV UI Yohan Suryanto amounting to IDR 400 million
- Commissioner of PT Solitech Media Energy Irwan Hermawan amounting to IDR 243 billion
- Director of PT Multimedia Berdikari Sejahtera Windi Purnama amounting to IDR 750 million
- Director of PT Basis Utama Prima M Yusrizki Muliawan amounting to IDR 20 billion and USD 2,500,000
- PT Telkominfra PT Multi Trans Data (PT MTD) FiberHome Consortium for Packages 1 and 2 amounting to IDR 2.4 trillion
- Lintasarta Huawei SEI Consortium for package 3 amounting to IDR 1.3 trillion
- IBS and ZTE Consortium Packages 4 and 5 amounting to IDR 2.4 trillion
Previously, Johnny G Plate was sentenced to prison. The judge stated that Plate was proven guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption in the Bakti Kominfo 4G base transceiver station (BTS) procurement project.
“The court declared that the Defendant Johnny Gerard Plate was legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing criminal acts of corruption together,” said presiding judge Fahzal Hendri when reading out the verdict in the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Jalan Bungur Besar Raya, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (8 /11).
“The defendant Johnny G Plate was sentenced to 15 years in prison,” he added.
The judge also sentenced Plate to pay a fine of IDR 1 billion subsidiary to 6 months in prison. Plate was also sentenced to pay compensation of IDR 15.5 billion.
This amount is lower than the prosecutor’s indictment. In his indictment, the prosecutor said that Plate received IDR 17.8 billion related to corruption in the BTS project. The money was then said to have flowed for Plate’s various needs.
One of them, according to the prosecutor, was that Plate used the money for donations. Here is the list:
a. In April 2021, IDR 200 million to victims of the flood disaster in East Flores Regency;
b. In June 2021, IDR 250 million to the GMIT Church in East Nusa Tenggara Province;
c. In March 2022 IDR 500 million to the Arnoldus Catholic Education Foundation;
d. In March 2022, IDR 1 billion to the Diocese of Kupang.
