Deputy Commander for Legal and Advocacy of the National Campaign Team (TKN) Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Habiburokhman, said there was no room for canceling the candidate pair promoted by their coalition. Habiburokhman said that the Constitutional Court (MK) Decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates is fixed and binding.
“We just want to emphasize the latest legal developments after the MKMK issued its decision. So it is clear that the MKMK decision does not annul, does not annul, does not even discuss, does not analyze Constitutional Court decision Number 90. Thus, MK Decision Number 90 remains legally binding and has rights implications young people to move forward,” said Habiburokhman in the Senayan area, Jakarta, Thursday (9/11/2023).
Habiburokhman said that the KPU will continue to decide which candidate pairs meet the requirements for the 2024 election. He believes that the Prabowo and Gibran pair will be definitive participants in the 2024 presidential election.
“Young people who excel in advancing in this most prestigious contest, namely the presidential election, will not be hindered and it is certain that on the 13th tomorrow the KPU will be able to determine all candidate pairs, including the Prabowo-Gibran candidate pair, as definitive participants in the 2024 presidential election,” he said.
He said there was no room for anyone to tackle the Prabowo-Gibran couple. According to him, there are no further obstacles for Gibran to run as vice presidential candidate.
“I don’t want to make accusations, we just want to emphasize that there is no loophole at all to fail the election, there is no loophole at all to fail Mas Gibran’s young people from becoming election contestants,” said the Deputy Head of the Gerindra Party.
“So the contestation for the 2024 election is clear. If there is a request for a new judicial review, in my opinion, whatever the result, it will not affect the determination of the 2024 presidential and vice presidential candidates. So there is legal certainty. I repeat, there is legal certainty, the presidential candidate pair Prabowo- Gibran’s vice presidential candidate will be appointed tomorrow on the 13th,” he continued.
On the same occasion, Chairman of the Bappilu of the Golkar Party, Maman Abdurahman, said that there was a movement from parties who wanted to thwart Gibran from becoming Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate. He said this was often related to the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
“We indicate that there are still movements that are counterproductive to the election agenda. Potential allegations, the first suspicion indicates that this is a movement that wants to degrade the couple Pak Prabowo and Mas Gibran,” he concluded.
