Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir showed off the Whoosh fast train to FIFA Team Project Venue Management Christian Schmölzer and FIFA Venue Manager Sunny Kohli.
They took the Whoosh fast train from Halim Station, Jakarta, to Tegalluar Station, Bandung, on Monday, October 9, 2023.
Erick said that Whoosh will be important in organizing the U-17 World Cup. The use of Whoosh will also facilitate the movement of teams and goods.
“FIFA wants to make sure Whoosh can support the movement of teams, goods, and organizers from Jakarta to Bandung. Jakarta and Bandung have two groups and many big teams,” said Erick.
Erick said, FIFA fully supports the use of Whoosh in the U-17 World Cup because it will be helpful in accelerating the recovery of players after the match.
“U-17 is important because we will be on the world stage. They will also be surprised when they ride Whoosh,” said Erick.
“For example, FIFA who participated today, have ridden the Shinkansen, a fast train in Europe and they are surprised that Indonesia has this and the first in Southeast Asia, it’s a different class,” Erick added.
Erick said the government is also seeking additional Whoosh travel frequencies during the U-17 World Cup.
The additional frequency is intended to make it easier for participants, organizers, and spectators.
“During the tournament on November 10-24, the movement from Jakarta to Bandung will be high, the city will try to add Whooshhours,” he explained.
