DPP GPSH Protests East Kalimantan Legislative Council for Allegedly Ignoring the Victims of Land Takeover in Berau

The DPP GPSH (Central Executive Board of the Legal Supermasi Guard Movement) sent a protest to the DPRD (Regional People’s Representative Council) Level I of East Kalimantan because it is suspected of having ignored the victims whose land was allegedly seized by a mining company.

The number of victims reached 2000 people with a total land area of 6000 people in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan.

Quoting the statement of the Chairman of DPP GPSH Moh Ismail on Sunday, November 19, 2023, in the Hearing Meeting of DPRD I East Kalimantan in Samarinda revealed that the suffering of Berau residents whose land was robbed has been going on for six years.

During the hearing, which took place on Thursday afternoon, November 16, 2023, representatives of the victims clearly stated that their land was robbed by the mining company PT Berau Coal.

The reason residents call the tragedy a robbery is because most of the land has not been paid for, PT Berau Coal has unilaterally carried out mining operations. While residents have found it difficult to find a source of livelihood for their families.

“All parties must understand that all this time the land owned by residents has been used by them for agriculture, plantation, and traditional livestock since the 1960s. But since 6 years ago, since PT Berau Coal miners entered Berau Regency, they have been evicted arbitrarily. In fact, many of them were criminalized by the authorities for protesting,” said Chairman of DPP GPSH Moh. Ismail, in his statement quoted on Monday, November 20, 2023.

In the hearing with DPRD I East Kaliman, the victim representatives were also accompanied by DPP GPSH Jakarta Lawyers.

Also present to accompany the residents were the Commander of the Dayak Tribe (Red Force) East Kalimantan, YM Aji Ahmad Ismail together with the regional leadership of the Red Force throughout East Kalimantan.
