Israel Sees Sharp Rise in Jobseekers Amid Conflict With Hamas

The number of jobseekers in Israel has soared since its conflict with Hamas broke out in the Gaza Strip, according to statistics released by the Israel Employment Service (IES) on Tuesday.

The number of new jobseekers in Israel amounted to 70,300 in October, three times higher than that registered in October 2022 and two and a half times higher compared to the previous month.

Of October’s new jobseekers, 96 percent were registered since the start of the conflict on Oct. 7, according to the statistics.

Also, about 42,350, or 60.2 percent, of the total new jobseekers in the month were workers placed on unpaid leave by their employers after the beginning of the confrontation between Israel and Hamas.

The IES noted that the most significant increases in the number of new jobseekers in October were recorded among shop assistants, service and administration managers, and nursing care workers.
